Man facing child cruelty charges
A Rome man is facing charges after a 6-year-old is seen walking to school in subfreezing temperatures last Thursday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A witness reported the child was walking on Burnett Ferry Road and there were several cars lined up behind him.
The school is more than a mile from the child’s home.
The witness said the child had on a jacket but was “ice cold.”
When officers went to speak with 36-year-old Anthony Curt Duran, he acted in a tumultuous manner toward them and continuously pulled away as he was being handcuffed.
Duran is charged with 2nd-degree cruelty to children, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of law enforcement.
Woman charged with gang activity, drug crimes
A 24-year-old Rome woman is facing multiple charges including participation in criminal street gang activity, conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Controlled Substances Act, and use of a communications facility to commit a felony.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Destiny Chiane Brooks, an associate of the “Ghost Face Gangsters,” used a cell phone to communicate with a co-conspirator to distribute a controlled substance back in October of last year.
