Floyd County will continue to purchase water from the City of Calhoun.
On Tuesday, the county commission approved an intergovernmental water distribution agreement.
“We have been functioning on a month-to-month contract for this year,” said Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. “The minimum purchase is 600,000 gallons per day, and the rate per 1,000 is $2,64. I would ask you to approve this pending final legal review. There is one legal question that the Calhoun City Attorney and [Floyd County Attorney Virginia] Ms. Harman need to clarify.”
The term of the contract is for five years.

In other action, commissioners approved a contract with Studio 8 Design for the agriculture center, which is a 2017 special purpose, local option sales tax project.
“This is a $250,000 to $300,000 on AIA [American Institute of Architects] with the final cost to be determined after the scope of final construction is determined,” McCord said. “The final design budget is at $4 million.”
The ag center will be located on about 42 acres near Mt. Berry Mall.
County fire engineer, IT director
The Floyd County Commission has approved an employment contract for a new county engineer.
“Mark Welsh comes to us from Goodwyn Mills & Caewood as a consultant, currently serving as the wastewater engineer for the City of Hoover, Alabama,” McCord said. “He has extensive experience in county engineering and project engineering. He is a licensed surveyor and a registered engineer in the State of Alabama, and I look forward to working with him.”
Welsh’s salary will be $90,000 a year.
Commissioners also approved a contract for a new information technology director.
Kevin Brown has been with the county since 2006.
He is currently the assistant IT director and will replace La Sonja Holcomb, who is retiring.
Also Tuesday, the commission selected its chair and vice chair for the coming year.
Allison Watters will continue to serve as chair while Larry Maxey will serve as vice-chair.
