The Floyd County Commission took time Tuesday to honor a special hero.
On November 14, 911 dispatcher Alisha Gresham answered a call from 6-year-old Autumn Adams, who had called because her father Bryan would not wake up due to a diabetic episode.
“Autumn acted quickly by giving her dad honey, which she said he told her to do if he ever passed out,” said Rome-Floyd E911 Director Sommer Robinson. “That information told Alisha that Bryan was having a diabetic emergency and that information was passed along to first responders. Because of Autumn’s bravery and heroic acts, Bryan was in the care of EMS responders in a matter of minutes.”
County Commissioner Wright Bagby, who has been a Type 1 Diabetic for 62 years, also commended Autumn for saving her dad’s life.
“I had children like her, and they are 51 and 54 now, and all of them have helped me survive those years,” he said. “Autumn, I want to tell you that what you did was magnificent. I don’t think people, besides Sommer, your parents, and other relatives here know how special you were in doing that. Your daddy and I know, because if it hadn’t been for people like you, we wouldn’t be here.”
Autumn was presented with a Floyd County Kids Hero Award for her bravery.
