Man charged with fleeing from police
A 26-year-old Rome man was jailed Wednesday on a felony warrant charging him with fleeing or attempting to elude.
According to the warrant:
Victor Earl Saxton sped up when police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on his vehicle on Branham Avenue in South Rome, reaching speeds of 70 miles per hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone.
Saxton also drove into a house, causing damage to the structure.
He is additionally charged with reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, failure to maintain a lane, too fast for conditions, and failure to report striking a fixed object.
Man charged with aggravated cruelty to animals
A 40-year-old Rome man is accused of neglecting an animal.
According to an arrest warrant:
Christopher Jacob Boyett failed to provide adequate water, food, sanitary conditions, or ventilation for the animal.
The warrant did not go into any other specific details.
Boyett is charged with a felony count of aggravated animal cruelty.
Two charged with illegal hunting
Two Rome men have been arrested on misdemeanor charges of hunting at night, hunting from a public roadway, and hunting from a vehicle.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
22-year-old Robert Tayler Barnes discharged his pistol on Callier Springs Road at Mountain View Road at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in an attempt to strike a deer that was in a wooded area about 30 yards away. Barnes is additionally charged with killing a deer at night, reckless conduct, and discharge of a firearm near a public street or highway.
Barnes was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Jesse James Hayden Gott.
