Two Rome men were arrested on methamphetamine trafficking charges at Wheeling Drive and Turners Bend Road in the Coosa area following a pursuit on Tuesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
39-year-old Jay Farrell Jones failed to stop his vehicle for police, traveled at a high rate of speed in a school zone, and recklessly navigated around other vehicles.
Once stopped, Jones had a marijuana cigarette, which was burnt and still warm to the touch, on his leg.
A pouch containing 39.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 3.6 grams of marijuana, digital scales, and packaging materials was found just off the roadway during a search of the area.
Neither Jones nor 49-year-old John Daniel Tillery, who was riding in the vehicle, claimed ownership of the pouch.
However, Tillery stated that during the pursuit the rear passenger window went down briefly before going back up.
Both men were also charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana, possession of drugs near a public school, abandonment of dangerous drugs, and tampering with evidence.
Tillery is additionally charged with possession of crack cocaine while Jones was additionally charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, and fugitive from justice.
According to the report, he is wanted on outstanding warrants in Alabama.
