The Board of Directors and the Head of School Search Committee at Unity Christian School have announced the appointment of Dr. John Barge as the new Head of School. Dr. Barge was selected after an extensive national search and vetting process with the assistance of Vanderbloemen, an executive search firm specializing in Christian organizations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. John Barge as the new Head of School at Unity Christian School,” said Nate King, Board Chairman. “Dr. Barge brings a wealth of experience and expertise in education, with a proven track record of building teams and leading high-functioning leaders. He recognizes the critical importance of Christian education and has a strong desire to serve in this capacity. We believe his leadership will guide us toward new heights, fostering a learning environment where students thrive academically, spiritually, athletically, and in the arts. Unity Christian School is entering an exciting chapter under his guidance, and we look forward to the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on our students, staff, and community. The Board of Directors and I look forward to partnering with John in carrying out Unity’s strategic mission.”
Dr. Barge holds a Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia. He has a Master’s Degree and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Georgia. Barge obtained his undergraduate degree in Communications/Public Relations with a minor in journalism at Berry College.
Dr. Barge has a distinguished background in education, having served in various roles, including high school English teacher, middle school Spanish teacher, assistant principal, principal, system curriculum director, and county superintendent. He has also held positions at the state level, including Georgia’s Director of Career, Technical and Agriculture Education, and Georgia’s State School Superintendent. With a heart for Jesus Christ and a passion for students, Dr. Barge is committed to Unity’s covenant mission and purpose to guide students to discover their identity in Christ through biblical discipleship and academic excellence by cultivating critical thinking in students through biblically integrated learning experiences.
“I am humbled and honored at the confidence the Board of Directors has placed in me in selecting me as the next Head of School at Unity,” Barge said. “I am eager to begin working with faculty, staff, and parents on the education of Unity’s students. Very few people get the opportunity to lead a school whose focus is not only on ensuring students are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to be college and career-ready but is also focused on providing students with a solid Biblical foundation and one that helps them establish their identity in Jesus Christ. I am delighted that I have that opportunity.”
Dr. Barge will officially begin his tenure on March 15, 2024, working together with the current Head of School, Mr. Eric Munn, through the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Unity Christian School is grateful to have had Mr. Eric Munn as Head of School for the past 10 years. His passion for Unity’s mission (to partner with Christian parents in preparing their children to impact the world for Christ by pursuing their God-given potential in academics, leadership, and service) has been fueled by his love for Jesus Christ. Mr. Munn’s departure at the end of this school year marks the end of one remarkable era and the beginning of a new one marked with optimism and encouragement. Unity Christian School looks forward to seeing all that God has in store for the future.
