Report: Man with child in vehicles flees from police
A 20-year-old Silver Creek man is accused of fleeing from police at speeds of 90 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone on Little Texas Valley Road Monday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Caden Joseph Ely ran a stop sign and proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed.
He then fled, passing multiple cars traveling in the opposite direction.
There were two passengers in Ely’s vehicle, including a six-month-old child.
He is charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding, a stop sign violation, and a window tint violation.
Rome man charged with meth trafficking
The execution of a search warrant on Minshew Road in the Shannon area resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man on methamphetamine trafficking charges Monday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Jared Demario Pruitt had more than an ounce of methamphetamine, packaged for resale, psilocybin mushrooms, glass smoking devices, and digital scales.
Pruitt, who is a convicted felon, also had two firearms—one being a shotgun that was cut off at the barrel.
He is also charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug-related objects, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Two arrested for meth, animal cruelty
Two Silver Creek residents were arrested at their Nelson Street home Monday following the execution of a search warrant.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
52-year-old Christopher Jerome Garrett Sr. and 45-year-old Angeline Michelle Thomas-Garrett had over 28 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, and packaging materials.
The two are also accused of three dogs, who were being kept in locked cages—one without water and two without food or water.
They are charged with trafficking meth, possession of meth, possession with the intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, and three misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.
Man accused of possessing marijuana, running from police
A Rome man was arrested Monday at a location on Branham Avenue on multiple drug charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
28-year-old Deltorius Devonte Thompson was found with a large quantity of marijuana, packaged for resale, packaging materials, and digital scales.
He also ran from officers.
Thompson is also accused of possessing 274 grams of marijuana back on December 27 during a traffic stop for invalid registration and then fleeing on foot, according to the arrest warrant.
He is charged with felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, and two counts of misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement.
Man charged with theft by receiving stolen property
A man already in the Floyd County Jail has been charged in connection with a stolen trailer.
According to the warrant:
On December 1, 53-year-old Eric Eugene Vaughn was in possession of a 16-foot dual-axis trailer that had been reported stolen in Jackson County, Alabama in October of 2022.
Vaughn was initially arrested on February 21 on charges of theft by taking, theft by deception, theft by conversion, and deposit account fraud.
He is also being held for Chattooga County authorities.
