Man facing charges for making unauthorized purchases while employed by Floyd County
A Coosa man is accused of using his Floyd County purchasing card to make 25 transactions totaling 1,142.96 without authorization.
According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
44-year-old Michael Robert Bennett also utilized the Floyd County tax ID number to make purchases on his personal Amazon account.
He also falsified a Floyd County allocation document to conceal purchases on his purchasing card.
The incidents occurred between September 8, 2022, and March 18 of this year while Bennett was a county employee.
The victim listed on the warrant was Floyd County Public Works.
Bennett is charged with felony theft by taking, fraudulent use of an exemption certificate to evade taxes, 25 counts of unauthorized use of a financial transaction card, and 14 counts of false statements and writings.
Man accused of stealing power
A third person has been arrested in connection with the theft of electricity from Georgia Power at the Pine Village mobile home park off Shorter Avenue.
According to Floyd County Jail records and an arrest warrant:
42-year-old Timothy Shane Wesson illegally benefited from more than $1,500 in power services between February 25 and March 25, when it was discovered that the lock seal to the meter was missing.
Service has been disconnected to the residence on February 22.
He is charged with charged with theft of services and damaging the property of a public utility.
48-year-old Kerry Wade Turner and 33-year-old Destiny Renee Barnes were arrested earlier in the week on the same charges.
Wesson is also accused of refusing to obey lawful commands from deputies and was additionally charged with misdemeanor obstruction.
Man charged with possession of ecstasy
A Rome man was arrested on Broad Street at Third Avenue Thursday on a felony charge of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
32-year-old Devonta Dashon Johnson was found with suspected ecstasy which was located inside an Aleve bottle in the vehicle he was driving.
Man arrested during traffic stop
A West Rome man stopped by police for misusing a turn lane and DUI on Dean Avenue at East 14th Street is also facing drug charges.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
A search of the vehicle was conducted after a K9 indication.
Marijuana and a solo cup containing alcohol were located.
42-year-old Richard Dennis Magwood then attempted to discard a baggie of cocaine in the transport vehicle as he was being taken to jail.
He is charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, DUI, open container, possession of drugs by an inmate, and a turn lane violation.
