Man charged with sexual exploitation of a child
A 52-year-old Rome man is facing charges of sexual exploitation of children, obscene internet contact with a child, use of a computer service to entice a child, and electronically furnishing obscene materials to a child following his arrest on Friday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Billy Kenneth Stockton Jr. made online contact with someone he believed to be under the age of 16, sending obscene pictures and videos to the person.
He also asked the person to send nude pictures and engaged in conversations of a graphic nature.
This occurred over several days.
Woman accused of hijacking vehicle belonging to Shorter University
A Cedartown woman is accused of taking a vehicle belonging to Shorter University on Saturday evening.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
36-year-old Melissa Sue Wyatt took the vehicle in the immediate presence of a security guard at the university on Shorter Avenue.
The truck, valued at $30,000, was later recovered.
Wyatt is charged with hijacking a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
Woman charged with entering an auto, obstruction
A Lindale woman has been arrested on a felony charge of entering an automobile.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
37-year-old Brittany Nichole Matthews entered the victim’s vehicle at a location on Shorter Avenue and tried to drive away in it.
When asked to get out of the vehicle, Matthews refused and then kicked two police officers as she was being put into the patrol vehicle.
She then gave police a false name and date of birth four times.
Matthews is also charged with two counts of simple battery, misdemeanor obstruction of officers, and giving a false name or date of birth to law enforcement.
Warrant: Man put woman’s belongings in dumpster
A West Rome man was arrested on Friday on warrants charging him with theft by taking and criminal trespass in an incident that occurred on March 2.
According to the warrants:
43-year-old Sebastian Tygong Walker took the personal belongings of a woman from a motel room on Martha Berry Boulevard and threw them into a dumpster.
The value of the property was listed at over $2,000.
Had the incident not been recorded on video, the victim’s belongings would have likely never been found.
Summerville man charged with exploitation
A Summerville man is facing a felony count of exploitation of the elderly following his arrest over the weekend.
According to an arrest warrant:
32-year-old Malcolm Jamal Shockley used the victim’s debit card to make transactions with his cash app and other platforms, depriving the victim of $716.
The incident occurred between May and July of last year.
Lindale man facing charges following domestic altercation
A Lindale man was jailed on Saturday on charges of 2nd-degree criminal damage to property, simple battery, and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
40-year-old Barrett Alexander Keasler grabbed a woman by the arms and started shaking her against the wall.
He also threw the victim’s iPhone to the ground.
The incident occurred in the presence of a child.
Woman arrested on drug charges
A Rome woman was arrested at her residence on Dean Avenue on drug charges on Sunday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
41-year-old Candice Nicole Calhoun was found in possession of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, a grinder, digital scales, and a smoking device.
She is charged with possession of meth, possession of meth with the intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug-related objects.
Man charged with possession of meth, marijuana
A West Rome man was arrested at Burnett Ferry Road and Highlander Trail on drug charges over the weekend.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
58-year-old Walter Clifford Benefield Jr. was found with a small bag containing suspected methamphetamine and a baggie of suspected marijuana.
Hde is charged with possession of meth and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Man accused of having marijuana at Floyd County Prison
A Loganville man is facing charges of possession of items prohibited for inmates and crossing the guard line with drugs.
According to the arrest warrants:
29-year-old Jameel Maleek Benjamin was found with 17.54 grams of marijuana during the initial intake process at the Floyd County Prison back on April 20, 2023.
The marijuana was located in a pouch sewn into Benjamin’s underwear.
