One person is dead following a residential fire Friday morning on Old Dalton Road.
According to the Rome News Tribune:
The Rome Floyd Fire Department responded to the scene and discovered 65-year-old Belinda Fender had succumbed to probable smoke inhalation.
Fire Department Division Chief Jamie Stone told the paper it appeared that there was a small fire inside the residence, and Fender was trying to make it out before she was overcome by smoke.
Fender’s dog was also found deceased inside the residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
