Man facing an aggravated sexual battery charge
A Rome man has been charged with aggravated sexual battery.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
The charge against 32-year-old Jess Trenton Weatherby stems from an incident involving a woman at his Ferry Crossing Drive home that occurred between February 3 and April 26.
Man arrested during drug bust
Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force officers arrested a Rome man on drug charges during the execution of a search warrant on Dean Avenue on Wednesday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
59-year-old Michael Anthony Martin was found with multiple baggies of suspected methamphetamine, syringes, digital scales, and a marijuana grinder.
Martin is charged with possession of meth, possession with the intent to distribute, possession of drug-related objects, and a probation violation.
Inmate accused of having a phone
A Bainbridge man is facing a felony charge of possession of items prohibited for inmates.
According to an arrest warrant:
30-year-old Javon Vashon Sanders, while an inmate at the Floyd County Prison, possessed and used a communications device to communicate with someone outside the prison.
The incident occurred between March 14 and March 28 while Sanders was on a work detail at Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services.
Warrant: Felon purchased a firearm
A Summerville man was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Wednesday on a felony warrant charging him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the warrant:
32-year-old Marcus Dupree Stamper purchased a .380 firearm from another man for $200 back in May.
At the time, Stamper was on probation.
Warrant: Firearm located on a convicted felon’s backpack
A North Rome man is facing a felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following his arrest on Wednesday.
According to an arrest warrant:
27-year-old Tariq Rakim Zekiah Cooper was seen walking on Calhoun Avenue on August 15.
Cooper, who had outstanding warrants for his arrest, ran into a wooded area.
He left behind a backpack containing a loaded 9mm, a grey mask, and a black tank top.
Cooper is also charged with failure to appear in court.
Man accused of writing a bad check for more than $33K
An Auburn, Georgia, man is accused of writing a bad check to a local roofing company.
According to an arrest warrant:
54-year-old Michael Lamont Cain wrote the check for $33,800 to Buckhead Roofing on Hicks Drive on May 12.
The check was returned due to insufficient funds.
The victim sent a demand letter to Cain, but they had still not received payment.
Cain is charged with a felony count of deposit account fraud.
Gordon County woman arrested for meth possession
A Calhoun woman was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Thursday on a felony warrant charging her with possession of methamphetamine.
According to the warrant:
28-year-old Ashley Marie Allen was found in possession of meth during a traffic stop in Lindale on Tuesday of this week.
Man charged with assault on an unborn child
A Silver Creek man was arrested Wednesday on charges of simple battery and assault on an unborn child.
According to the arrest warrants:
42-year-old John Luther Harmon kicked a woman, who was four months pregnant, in the stomach, causing her to bleed.
The incident occurred on Garden Lakes Parkway on August 30.
Man charged with hit-and-run
A homeless man has been charged in connection with a wreck that occurred on September 6 on Martha Berry Highway.
According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
41-year-old Jesse William Tapp was driving a Jeep Cherokee when he crashed, hitting a utility pole, bringing it down.
He also struck a building and a fence.
Tapp then fled on foot before police arrived.
He is charged with hit and run, failure to report an accident with property damage, driving too fast for conditions, and failure to maintain a lane.
