Man charged with fleeing or attempting to elude
A 17-year-old West Rome man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from Georgia State Troopers in the North Rome and Shannon areas on Monday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Josiah Trevon Smith fled from a road check on North Avenue, running red lights and reaching 101 miles per hour.
He then ran a stop sign at Barron Road.
Smith is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, obstruction, reckless driving, speeding, failure to obey traffic control devices, a stop sign violation, improper lane change, driving without a license, and driving in violation of license class.
Woman charged in scheme to smuggle contraband into prison
A Fayetteville woman has been arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of items prohibited for inmates, use of a communications facility to commit a crime, and felony possession of marijuana.
According to the arrest warrants:
30-year-old Aliyah Jene Cornelius conspired with two inmates and another civilian to smuggle contraband into the Floyd County Prison in December of last year.
Cornelius agreed to deliver 471 grams of marijuana, 244 grams of tobacco, six sheets of suspected strips, and rolling papers to a designated spot in Floyd County.
However, the items were recovered by a prison investigator before they could be brought into the prison.
