Man charged with child cruelty
A 39-year-old Shannon man has been arrested on charges of 1st-degree cruelty to children and simple battery.
According to an arrest warrant and Floyd County Jail records:
Michael Van Causey kicked a child under the age of 12 and placed him in a chokehold.
He also chased the victim around the yard.
Meanwhile, 34-year-old Felicia Page Causey is charged with being a party to a crime.
That warrant states that she cornered the child to prevent him from running away during the incident that occurred on April 19.
Man charged with obscene internet contact with a child
A Celanese man is accused of sending an obscene picture to a minor via social media.
According to an arrest warrant:
24-year-old David Joseph Mabry knew or should have known he was communicating with a 16-year-old female on Facebook Messenger when he sent the picture exposing himself to her.
Before sending the image, he told the teen not to say anything to anyone.
Mabry is charged with obscene internet contact with a child.
Lindale man accused of fleeing from officers
A Lindale man is accused of fleeing from a traffic stop at speeds twice the posted speed limit in the Maple Road area.
According to Floyd County jail records:
39-year-old Scotty Michael Craig was observed using his cell phone.
He also crossed the double yellow line on three different roads before he lost control of his vehicle on the wet pavement, striking a mailbox and a trash can.
He is charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, DUI, too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane, distracted driving, and a probation violation.
Man accused of taking money to do work and never delivering
A Smyrna man was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Thursday on a felony warrant charging him with conversion of payments for real property improvements.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
56-year-old James Cornelius Miles was contracted to install an HVAC system on Cambridge Drive off Chulio Road in Rome.
He was paid $3,200 for the work, but three months later, he had not delivered the equipment or issued a refund.
Man charged in scheme to smuggle contraband into prison
A Rome man is accused of conspiring with inmates and another civilian to smuggle contraband into the Floyd County Prison.
According to an arrest warrant:
45-year-old Travis Sentell Wimbley received instructions from an inmate and had contraband delivered to the 3rd Avenue Parking Deck to be retrieved during a work detail.
However, investigators intercepted the items known as “strips,” which are pieces of paper soaked in drugs or other chemicals, then allowed to dry before being consumed or smoked.
Wimbley is charged with possession of items prohibited for inmates.
