Man charged with aggravated assault
A West Rome man is accused of assaulting a woman at his Sycamore Street home on Sunday evening.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
41-year old Jose Chavez Cruz sat on top of the victim and put his hands around her neck in an attempt to strangle her.
A child in the home tried to get Cruz off of the woman, as did a teenager.
The teen then called 911.
Cruz is charged with aggravated assault, battery, criminal trespass with property damage, and two counts of 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
Report: Woman confined husband in a bedroom
A West Rome woman was arrested Saturday following a domestic altercation at a home on Decatur Street.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
24-year old Alisia Galvez Gomez hit her husband in the head, leaving visible scratches and a welt.
She then confined the man in the bedroom, blocking the door and holding the door handle.
Three children were in the home at the time of the incident.
Gomez is charged with false imprisonment, battery, simple battery, and 3rd-degree cruelty to children.
Warrant: Woman discarded five pounds of meth in patrol vehicle
A Rome woman is facing a methamphetamine trafficking charge following her arrest over the weekend.
According to an arrest warrant:
32-year old Sherry Marie Brooks disposed of approximately five pounds of methamphetamine while being transported to the Floyd County Jail back on February 24.
The incident was caught on the patrol car’s dash cam.
Man charged with fleeing or attempting to elufe
A Rome man is accused of fleeing from Floyd County Police on Sunday night.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
32-year old Jared Barnard Jett Jr. was clocked going 80 miles an hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone.
He then failed to stop for police, crossing the center line three times before bailing from his vehicle and fleeing on foot.
Jett was taken into custody on Nichols Road at Chulio Road and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, driving with a suspended or revoked license, misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement, and a probation violation.
The report stated that this is the fifth time Jett has been charged with driving with a suspended license since 2020.
Man accused of running from police, possessing gun while a convicted felon
An Armuchee area man was jailed over the weekend on multiple charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
42-year old Nathan Nacoma Blackmon refused to stop his vehicle for police and fled, failing to obey a stop sign at Hidden Branches and Trillium Trail and reaching a speed of 68 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone.
At one point, an item from the tailgate of his truck flew out, landing on the roadway.
He then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, tossing a firearm toward some bushes.
The truck also had a tag from another vehicle affixed to it.
Blackmon is additionally charged with having an unsecured load, concealing the identity of a vehicle, driving without a current license plate, driving with a suspended or revoked license,, suspended registration, speeding, and a stop sign violation.
Cartersville woman arrested in the Armuchee area on drug charge
A Cartersville woman was arrested on a felony drug charge over the weekend on Highway 27 North at North Floyd Park.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
35-year-old Rebecca Hope Montoya was pulled over for running a sign on Walenda Drive and was found to be driving under the influence.
She was then found in possession of suspected ecstasy.
Montoya is charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, DUI, and a stop sign violation.
Two arrested for meth possession
A trip to Bojangles’ turned into a trip to jail for a Rockmart man on Sunday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
37-year old Joshua Lynn Hunter was driving under the influence when he was stopped on Turner McCall Boulevard by Rome Police.
Suspected methamphetamine was then found in a compartment under the car radio.
Hunter is charged with possession of meth and DUI.
A passenger in the vehicle, 52-year old Bryan Ray Folsom of Easom Hill, is also charged with meth possession.
