Floyd County is currently in the middle of its budget process for the coming year.

Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord gave an update during a recent county commission meeting.

“We’ve been in the budget process for several months now,” he said. “We’ve been meeting with department heads and going through our requests for 2026. They have gotten all of those to finance, and finance and I have been meeting over the last several weeks. A lot of good things for next year’s budget, but there is also some work to do. We are still in deficit with the first flush and we do need to work through that, which is not unusual at this time. I have gone through everything with the exception of recreation, elections, and our capital budget, but good work by the department heads, and great work by the finance department to get everything in order.”

There was a work session on Tuesday of last week, and another is scheduled for November 25.

“We are currently scheduled to have another work session on December 1, along with a public hearing for first reading on December 1,” McCord added. “Then, adoption will be at the regularly scheduled meeting on December 9. That will be the standard 6 p.m. meeting. Again, there is a lot of work going on between that time frame and this time frame.”

The budget would take effect on January 1, 2026.
