The Rome City Commission is expected to consider an extension of the moratorium on the issuance of permits for any new convenience stores or gas stations when it meets on Monday.
The original moratorium was approved in June to give the city time to look at ways to address the proliferation of convenience stores.
City Attorney Andy Davis told the commission at that time that Rome had 70 stores per resident.
The national average is more like one for every 2,200.
Some regulations have been proposed, but they were tabled by the planning commission earlier this month.
The Rome City Commission meeting starts at 6:30 pm at Rome City Hall.
The caucus starts at 5.
