The Rome City Commission has voted to designate St. Patrick’s Day as the one Sunday in 2024, when alcoholic beverages may be sold in certain pouring establishments that are not otherwise authorized to pour on Sunday due to the 50% food sale ratio required by state law.
There are six establishments that qualify.
“We did poll the six establishments in Rome,” said Rome City Clerk Joe Smith. “Three of those favored Super Bowl Sunday and three favored St. Patrick’s Day. The Alcohol Control Commission reviewed this and they are of the understanding it’s the city commission’s decision and they did not make a recommendation.”
The sales will be permitted between the hours of 12:30 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, March 17.
During a called meeting late last year, the city commission designated New Year’s Eve as the designated Sunday for 2023.
Rezoning for townhouse development in North Rome approved
The Rome City Commission has approved a North Rome rezoning.
The request to rezone from Community Commercial to Urban mixed-use represents the remaining portion of the townhouse development that was previously approved with conditions for the former funeral home on North Broad Street and property across Davis Street.
“The whole project, to speak to the UMU rezoning request, it’s not necessarily because of the mixed-use,” said developer Walt Busby. “It is because of the setbacks that are required. In multi-family zoning, the setback requirements would cause us to lose a couple of units. The project is a 36-unit development, and the only way it would work is if we get the 36-unit density. It doesn’t work with 24 units.
.Also Monday, the commission voted to re-adopt the Unified Land Development Code and Zoning Maps.
The rezoning of 1908 Maple Road from Community Commercial to Neighborhood Office Commercial, and 204 West 10th Street from Community Commercial to High Density Traditional were also approved by the commission.
