Most of the discussion during Monday’s Rome City Commission meeting is expected to center around the proposed 2024 budgets.
A review of the budgets is on the agenda for the pre-meeting caucus which begins at 5 p.m. at Rome City Hall.
The city is planning for a $1.3 million increase in insurance costs in 2024 with the city contribution going from $10,500 per employee to $12,600 per employee. Employees will also see a premium increase for the first time in around three years.
“We had a very tough insurance year,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich during a recent Finance Committee meeting. “Some years we get lucky and have affordable results. We do all that we can do to promote wellness like the employee clinic. We’ve got everything in the world to try and keep our costs down. Sometimes you just have unlucky years.”
A First Reading and public hearing for the 2024 budgets will take place during the regular meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.
City Commissioners will also hold a public hearing for the proposed North Rome Redevelopment Plan.
The boundaries for the North Broad Redevelopment Corridor consist of more than 1,700 parcels, and a smaller area consisting of 22 parcels in the area of the Varsity could be the next Tax Allocation District.
