The 36th annual Thanksgiving Day Love Feast is Thursday and there is still time for you to help.
The free traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served at the Rome Civic Center on Jackson Hill from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until the food runs out.
According to Rev. Terrell Shields, chairperson of The Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County, they anticipate feeding a large number of people this year.
“We are in need of warm clothing because we give warm clothing to those who come in and need it,” he said. “We also need desserts like cakes and pies. Home-cooked or store-bought would be acceptable. We also need volunteers to serve the meal.”
Due to a lack of storage space, donations of coats and jackets can be dropped off at the civic center on Wednesday between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.
Donations of cakes, pies, and other desserts may be dropped off Wednesday after 6 p.m.
Those who have been designated to cook turkeys and dressings are asked to please deliver those on Thursday morning between 8 and 9 a.m.
If you would like to volunteer to work on Thanksgiving Day, call (706) 234-2091 to find out the time when you would most be needed.
If you know of someone who is homebound; Rev. Shields said you can give organizers of the Love Feast their name and address.
“So, we can serve them too,” he said. “We have a large population that is homebound and they don’t have access to cooking a Thanksgiving dinner.”
