The Rome-Floyd Fire Overview Committee recently got an update on staffing levels at the fire department.
The department is currently about nine firefighters short, mostly due to retirements, but there is some good news.
“When they posted the open positions, they got over 100 applicants,” said Floyd County Commission Chair Allison Watters. “They interviewed over 50 people, and some very good, qualified individuals. They’ve hired 10 and put 10 more on a priority hiring list. So, we should be in good shape to fill those nine positions.”
It was also announced at the meeting that firefighters raised $12,700 over the three-day Labor Day weekend during the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Boot Drive.
