The Rome Police Department is clarifying a false claim circulating on social media regarding a city bus on Shorter Avenue.
A post alleged that a transit bus had been abandoned after its driver left to continue the trip on a bicycle. Police confirmed the report is not true.
According to the department:
- No city bus was abandoned.
- No scheduled buses were operating in that area at the time.
- Riders are allowed to bring bicycles on Rome Transit buses to complete their trips.
- No drivers left a bus to ride a bicycle.
Officials said the information was “entirely inaccurate” and encouraged the public to rely on official sources for updates.
Police noted that if an incident requires a statement, it will be released through their official channels.
