Firefighters were dispatched to a fire at Winthrop Senior Care on Highway 411 on Wednesday morning.
The fire started in the attic of the apartments and was quickly contained.
Damage is minor, and no injuries were reported.
According to Floyd County Emergency Management:
Approximately 50 residents were evacuated.
The American Red Cross assisted EMA in finding a temporary shelter, and the facility was able to get placement for everyone.
Floyd County EMA thanks Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation for making a facility available on short notice.
The residents were in teporary shelter from 12 noon until at least 730 p.m.
Repairs will have to be made, and the fire suppression systems will have to be reset before the residents will be allowed to return.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
