One of Floyd County’s Most Wanted is in custody.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
31-year-old James Alvin Cotton shot a man on Woodcreek Way in Rome back on May 16, 2025.
A .233 caliber rifle was used in the shooting.
According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office:
[On Friday afternoon] Corporal Towle & Deputy Bowerman with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Division followed up on leads regarding an individual on Floyd County’s Top 10 Most Wanted. The investigation led deputies to Dalton, Georgia.
With assistance from the Dalton Police Department, deputies successfully located and apprehended the individual, identified as Cotton.
Cotton is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He is also charged with giving a false name or birthdate to police after he told authorities his name was Brandon McGlotha on November 18, last year.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend our deputies for their diligent effort in locating one of the FCSO Top 10 & thank the Dalton Police Department for their assistance.
