Floyd County Commissioners have voted to approve a Local Maintenance Improvement Grant Program Safety Action Plan agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Floyd County Public Works asked for the approval.
“GDOT invited us to apply for these additional funds that focus on safety,” said Floyd County Finance Director Susie Gass. “This is funded from the state from the remaining LMIG funds at the end of their fiscal year, and they did not become available until May 1. We do have to sign and apply for these by May 15.”
There is a matching portion that will require a 2023 special-purpose, local option sales tax budget increase of $99,750.
“Our recommendation is to spend the money on thermoplastic striping on roads that we’ve paved in the last 3 to 4 years,” Gass added. “The total cost for all of the road projects that we turned in is $399,750. We applied for $300,000, and it requires a 30% match. So, the $99,750 is our 30% match. When we put the pricing out, if it comes in way off the budget somehow, we will adjust our project list.”
Thermoplastic striping is reflective, providing better visibility at night and during rainy conditions.
It lasts longer than standard traffic paint.
