Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) student Kristin Garrett has received a $5,000 Advocate Health Community Scholarship to help cover education costs as she pursues an associate degree in Respiratory Care.
Garrett, a Rome resident, anticipates graduating in May 2027. She has been employed at Atrium Health Floyd in Rome as a public safety supervisor for more than three years.
“After graduation, I plan to become a registered respiratory therapist,” Garrett said. “I hope to continue serving at Atrium Health Floyd, part of Advocate Health.”
“As a first-generation college student, I’m proud to currently carry a 4.0 GPA and am challenging myself to maintain it through graduation,” Garrett said, adding that she is also a member of GNTC’s chapter of the National Technical Honor Society.
Forty $5,000 Advocate Health Community Scholarships were awarded by Advocate Health, including 20 awards to community members and dependents of teammates and 20 to eligible Advocate Health teammates across its service area. The program supports the development of a strong and diverse future workforce.
“Kristin is an intelligent and dedicated student in her studies in pursuing a career in Respiratory Therapy, displaying dependability, reliability, and initiative,” said Zenia Bratton, program director and instructor of Respiratory Care at GNTC.
“Respiratory therapists are in high demand and are trained to work therapeutically with people suffering from pulmonary disease,” Bratton said.
Advocate Health said these scholarships support students in healthcare and STEM-related fields, including business, finance, engineering, health care, human resources, information technology, mathematics, science, and technology.
