A delegation from Kumamoto, Japan, last visited Rome in February of 2025.
Rome is preparing for a visit from its sister city.
A delegation from Kumamoto, Japan, is scheduled to visit during the first week in July.
On Wednesday, the city’s international committee met and discussed tentative plans for activities, which could include tours, dinner events, and more.
More than 30 years ago, then Rome City Commission chair George Pullen initiated the relationship with Ueki Town, which was merged into the expanded city of Kumamoto in 2010.
In years past, the relationship has included students and elected officials from Rome visiting Kumamoto, and vice versa.
Ueki is an agricultural community known for its watermelons.
Meanwhile, the greater Kumamoto area has a population of more than 1.5 million, and is home to a castle and an active volcano.
