As temperatures rise in Georgia, drivers are getting a much-needed break at the pump.
Falling gas prices come as Georgians prepare to travel for Independence Day, with record numbers expected to hit the roads beginning next weekend.
“Georgia drivers are seeing some welcome relief at the pump just as one of the busiest travel periods of the year gets underway,” with the state average now at $3.65 per gallon, said Garrett Townsend, Public Affairs Director for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The recent decline in gas prices is helping ease travel costs for families planning summer road trips. While current prices are encouraging for holiday travelers, motorists should continue to monitor local prices and plan ahead to maximize their fuel savings.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 11 cents lower than last week
- 38 cents lower than last month
- 70 cents higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $54.75.
Local averages on Monday were $3.56 in Floyd County, $3.66 in Polk County, $3.52 in Gordon County, $3.54 in Bartow County, and $3.55 in Chattooga County.

The national average for gas has dropped to $3.93 per gallon, down 14 cents in just a week. For the first time since March 30, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is below $4.00 per gallon.
