Georgia 4-H celebrated excellence during the 83rd Annual 4-H State Congress as top 4-H’ers from across the state gathered in Atlanta to compete, lead, and be recognized for their outstanding achievements.
This year, Floyd County 4-H was proudly represented by two exceptional senior 4-H members who earned significant honors at the state level.
One of the highest honors awarded during State Congress was received by Kylan Ferrell, who was inducted as a Georgia 4-H State Board Member. Serving on the Georgia 4-H State Board is one of the most prestigious leadership opportunities available to a Georgia 4-H member. State Board Members represent thousands of 4-H youth across Georgia, serve as ambassadors for the organization, help lead statewide events, and work alongside Georgia 4-H staff to strengthen programming and opportunities for young people across the state.
“Kylan’s induction to the Georgia 4-H State Board is a tremendous accomplishment,” said Floyd County 4-H Agent Abbie Salmon. “This honor reflects years of dedication, leadership development, and service through 4-H. We are incredibly proud of him and excited to see the impact he will make at the state level.”
Floyd County 4-H member Tabitha Smith also represented the county exceptionally well, earning third place in the state in the Hospitality, Tourism, and Food Industry Management Project Achievement Area. Through Project Achievement, Tabitha researched and developed expertise in her chosen project area while building valuable skills in public speaking, leadership, record keeping, and community engagement. Her third-place finish places her among the top competitors in Georgia in her project category.
State Congress serves as the culmination of Georgia 4-H’s Project Achievement program, where senior 4-H members showcase their knowledge, leadership experiences, and service work through presentations and interviews with industry professionals. Students compete in project areas spanning agriculture, science, leadership, health, civic engagement, communications, and numerous career-focused fields.
More than 60,000 youth participate in Project Achievement annually through county 4-H programs across Georgia. The program helps young people develop essential life skills including public speaking, critical thinking, goal setting, record keeping, and leadership. At the high school level, participants select a project area of interest, conduct research, prepare a presentation, engage in related service activities, and compete through district and state events.
Georgia 4-H empowers youth to become true leaders by developing essential life skills, building positive relationships, and increasing community awareness. As the premier youth leadership organization in the state, Georgia 4-H reaches hundreds of thousands of young people annually through UGA Extension offices and 4-H facilities.
