If you are thinking about adopting a pet, now would be a great time.
Floyd County Public Animal Welfare Services is full and there are many animals that need new homes.
“If you are looking for a furry friend, please adopt,” said Floyd County Commissioner Allison Watters. “Walk-ins are accepted to pet micro-chipping. The low-cost spay/neuter clinic has been a success, and is available to anyone. Please spay or neuter your pets. If you know of anyone in your neighborhood that needs assistance, you can reach out to me personally. There are several non-profits and our local animal control shelter that will help with that. We’ve got to get a handle on the pet overpopulation challenge that we have.”
The animal control facility is located at 99 North Avenue.
It is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
It costs $40 to adopt a dog and $35 to adopt a cat.
