The Floyd County Board of Assessors will hold a special called meeting this morning to approve the 2025 digest.
The tax digest is the sum of all the assessed values, after exemptions, of properties to be taxed within a particular jurisdiction.
Local governments take the digest into account when setting the millage rate for property owners.
Individual assessment notices went out in June, and the deadline to appeal has passed.
“The role of the board of assessors is simply the setting of market value,” said Floyd County Chief Appraiser Danny Womack. “We do that by tracking the real estate market in the area. The growth that we saw countywide for Floyd County was just under eight percent. That is inclusive of all types of property—commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential–along with anything from vacant land to improved property. So, it’s an average. Some people will see less than eight percent, and some people will see more. It just depends on where you fall on that spectrum.”
The called meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 9 a.m. in Suite 216 of the Historic Courthouse located at 4 Government Plaza in Rome.
