The Rome City Commission is set to take up an annexation request for a convenience store when it meets on Monday.
The property at 203 Burnett Ferry Road is currently home to A-1 Food and Beverage.
The applicant is seeking annexation into the city for “property values.”
During a recent Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission meeting, the applicant was represented by attorney Fisher K. Law.
He said the moratorium on new convenience stores has been lifted since February 9, and they are asking the city again to be annexed.
Annexation would mean the applicant could seek to have coin-operated amusement machines.
No citizens spoke in opposition, and the planning commission voted to recommend approval by a 7-2 margin.
In other action on Monday, a Downtown Public Consumption Ordinance Amendment is slated for a first reading.
In 2025, the city began allowing public consumption, mostly on Broad Street, between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The ordinance amendment, if approved by the full Rome City Commission, would expand that to seven days a week.
There are also changes being proposed to add a couple of new areas where public consumption would be permitted.
“There was a suggestion made to tweak that coverage area to extend up West First Street and West Second Street to include the Hampton Inn and the Days Inn,” said Rome City Clerk Joe Smith. “There is also a minor adjustment to include the newly constructed Floyd County amphitheatre by the library.”
During the caucus, the commission will hear from representatives from the Rome Downtown Development Authority who will speak about the reasons they are requesting the change.
The caucus starts at 5 p.m. with the regular meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Rome City Hall.
