Authorities are investigating an inmate death at the Polk County Jail.
According to a news release:
On Monday evening, 42-year-old Kirk Douglas Owens of Cedartown, who was being housed for public drunkenness and a probation violation, was found unresponsive in his cell.
Jail staff performed CPR and other life-saving measures until EMS arrived.
Owens was transported to Atrium Health Polk Medical Center, where he later died.
As with any in-custody death, the GBI has been called in to handle the investigation.
