While Governor Kemp’s suspension of the state gas tax through October 29, 2026, is providing some relief at the pump, Georgia drivers are still paying more than usual for this time of year.
As elevated fuel costs continue to impact household budgets, the state average currently stands at $3.86 per gallon (subject to overnight changes).
“Drivers are getting some welcome relief at the pump as lower crude oil prices and Georgia’s suspension of the state gas tax help keep fuel costs in check,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “While gas prices have dipped below $4 a gallon, drivers can save even more by driving efficiently, staying current on vehicle maintenance, and combining errands when possible.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 33 cents lower than last week
- 3 cents lower than last month
- 96 cents higher than last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $57.90.
National Average Eases After September Spike
The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell 11 cents from last week to $4.36, following a record-setting September at the pump.
The monthly average reached $4.33, surpassing the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023 by 50 cents.
While lower crude oil prices in the low-$90-per-barrel range have helped ease pump prices, gas costs remain at record highs for this time of year.
