Floyd County Commissioners took time on Tuesday to recognize a local hobbyist for a very special donation.
Likia Wilson of Boxed Beauty Builds created and then donated to the county a detailed, handcrafted cardboard replica of the Historic Courthouse.
“I’m not an architect, so it’s not perfect, but it was something that I wanted to do,” Williams told the commission. “When the courthouse burned down, it really touched my heart. So, I had a contest on Facebook, and I asked the people what they would like for me to build, and one particular person suggested the courthouse.”
The replica took about three months to build.
“It’s just ordinary things, like cardboard and Popsicle sticks,” Williams said. “I 3D printed. The roof is made out of card stock. It’s all of the different things I use. This is my hobby, and I just wanted to give it back to the community.”
The 134-year-old courthouse was heavily damaged by fire on March 23.
Cleanup is underway, and once it is done, county officials hope to be able to determine if the structure can be saved.
